Sri Tirumalacharyulu was the learned man of the court at Venkatagiri Princely State. Ever since 1910, for almost 40 years, he spent his life in pursuit of spiritual matters and devotion to God under the patronage of the chieftains of this state. He had written a book of poems titled, "Sri Sathya Sai Baba Ramayanamu", containing in brief, the most wonderful divine story of Bhagawan Baba. He also wrote a book titled, "Sathya Sai Satakarnu" containing 100 poems with emphasis on devotion.
When Baba visited Venkatagiri on 10th September 1950, he penned 5 poems named, "Pancha Rathnopahara" (Garland of 5 precious Gems) on Swami and dedicated them at the Divine Lotus Feet of Swami. He was feeling intensely Swami's divine grace. He used to visit Puttaparthi, often thereafter, for Sivarathri and Navarathri festivals. Because of his good luck in seeing Bhagawan, touching Him and serving Him, Bhagawan blessed Tirumalacharyulu with the vision of Mahavishnu in his dream on one night and initiated him with "Thiru Mantropadesa" (Holy name of Narayana).
Once one of his daughters was suffering from severe stomach pain and Swami had told that she would not need surgery and He would take care of her. Then she went to live with her husband in Hyderabad. After some time, again the stomach pain started tormenting her. Swami went to their house, touched her with His divine hand, assured her not to be afraid of and then left their house. At that time Swami was in Puttaparthi itself. The doctors of Osmania Hospital who examined her said it was only due to divinegracethatshehada re-birth.
First edition of Swami's Biography titled, "Sathyam Sivam Sundaram", written in Telugu by Tirumalacharyulu was printed and ready for release on the holy day of "Mahasivarathri" in the year I960. Sri Tirumalacharyulu presented the first copy of the book to Swami. On that day Swami felicitated Sri Tirumalacharyulu, who wrote the book in Telugu and Sri Kasturi who wrote it in English by adoring them with zari braced silk shawls ontheirshoulders.
The first edition of the above book was sold away quickly. In the second edition, Tirumalacharyulu added a chapter titled, "Sri Sathya Sai Avatara Vaibhavam". In the third edition, he added another chapter entitled, "Vaidika Dharmoddharana".
During Dasara celebrations in 1960, Bhagawan instructed Tirumalacharyulu to read his own book, "Sri Sathya Sai Geetha" for 3 days continuously and explain the poems in that book. Swami many times intervened and declared in detail several divine secrets about Himself, His advent, and His Message in this incarnation.
The October 1982 issue of "Sanathana Sarathi" carried a prayer, "Sri Sathya Sai Dandakam" written by Tirumalacharyulu with the title, "Chidhananda Murthy" (God of eternal bliss)
During Dasara festival in the year 1965, Swami arranged to honour Sri Dupati Tirumalacharyulu, and three other great scholars by the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh Sri Pattam Thanu Pillai through presentation of gold bracelets decorated with diamond studded lion heads. Later, Swami Himself honoured them by adoring their shoulders with Kashmir shawls.
When Bhagawan Baba was in an assembly with devotees in Brindavan in Bangalore, Tirumalacharyulu recited the ten verses of "Sri Sathya Sai Suprabhatam" written by him. Swami blessed him, with a lot of appreciation. Even today this famous Suprabhatam is recited in all Sai assemblies.
In the first week of April, 1961, Swami visited Lucknow with a contingent of about 70 devotees, including Tirumalacharyulu. Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, an ardent devotee of Baba was the Governor of Uttar Pradesh at that time. The entire group was accommodated in the Raj Bhavan at Lucknow. During their visit to Ayodhya along with Baba, inside the temple of Sri Ramachandra, Tirumalacharyulu was blessed with the vision of Sri Sathya Sai Baba with Bow and Arrows, Golden Head crown, yellow coloured silk clothes and standing like Rama. With that vision, Tirumalacharyulu became unconscious.
Speaking about the intense devotion of Tirumalacharyulu, Bhagawan Said, "Tirumalacharya, the author of Sri Sathya Sai Suprabhatam, used to live here. He had served in the royal court of Venkatagiri. He was a great scholar in Sanskrit and Sastras. He accompanied Bhagavan to Badarinath at the advanced age of ninety. Bhagavan asked him whether he was fit enough to undertake such an arduous journey. He affirmed that with Swami by his side, he would travel any length of journey without any discomfort. (Cheers) He said, "Sai Mata, if You forsake me, my entire existence is a waste. If You accept me as Yours, it is as if I have everything at my command." This was the state of Bhakti and surrender in which Tirumalacharya spent his life. He was constantly meditating on Sai Mata. He spent all his time in Swami's proximity, whether it was here or in Brindavan. His Bhakti was beyond measure. Consequently, his end was peaceful.
He very well knew that his end was approaching and one day expressed his feeling. On being questioned as to how he knew about it, he replied, "Swami is telling me from within." Saying so, he went for his bath, brought some water, washed Swami's feet and sipped a few drops of the sanctified water and said, "Swami, my life has found fulfillment. Poornamada Poornamidam Poornat Poornamudachyate Poornasya Poornamadaya Poornameva Avashishyate (The whole is ail that. The whole is all this. The whole was born out of the whole. Taking the whole from the whole, what remains is also the whole). Physically, mentally and spiritually, I have attained this wholesomeness. Now the time has come for me to merge in You." Thereafter, he cast off his mortal coil and merged in Swami. There is no shortage of men filled with Bhakti of this kind in the world. It is only because of the presence of such devotees that the world is able to sustain itself."
Sri Dupati Tirumalacharyulu after successful completion of his mission in his life has become immortal by rendering valuable service to his mother tongue, Telugu language, Universal mother Sri Sathya Sai and Goddess of Education and Knowledge, Saraswathi.
